Evolution of CF Treatment

In every country, CF is widely distributed throughout the population. Since the population is more concentrated in urban centres, the number of CF patients is higher in larger population centres. But people with cystic fibrosis can be from any area of a country.

Ireland has the highest rate of Cystic Fibrosis in the world. About one in 1600 babies is born each year with CF. This equates to about 30-40 babies per year in Ireland, according to present birth-rates.

If CF people are widely distributed, then so is their hospital care if they only attend a local hospital. This means that their hospital charts are widely distributed too and it is also likely that a local hospital will then have only one or two CF patients attending it.
