Security Issues
The following information is intended to explain the precautions that are used to safeguard all of the information on the system.
- The server is hosted (housed) by Network-IE in a secure building, alarmed and guarded 24 hr/day, 7 days a week.
- The server that contains the database is exclusive to the CFRI. That means that there will not be any other web-customers using that machine and the hours of operation are restricted.
- "Firewall" software, installed on the server, filters in-coming and out-going traffic and prevents unauthorised access to the database.
- The OS (operating system) installed on the machine requires usernames and passwords to access any data on the machine. These usernames and passwords are issued to authorised personnel ONLY.
- The database is password protected on two levels. This means that a user must log on to the operating system first and then again onto the database.
- The most up-to-date encryption software is used to protect the data.
- Security Certificate - The CFRI has a Security Certificate; used by financial, government or other institutions that wish to protect their data from being intercepted.
Patient Access
Every person who is enrolled on the Registry may have a copy of their records and this is guaranteed by the Data Protection Act, 1988.
